The Great British Hobbit League is entering its final stretch, with just a couple months of events left before crowning the League Champion once more - along with a multitude of prizes for regional events, newcomer, best painter and best sporting of the 2022 league.
So inevitably that leads to looking ahead to next year's events calendar, and the 2023 GBHL will have some extra spice in it! So tuck in!
In 2023 there will be a new category of event you can attend, a GBHL90 event. Until now, the league has had GBHL80 events; more relaxed, less competitive events, often with additional special rules, which gift the winner 80 points to the league. It's also had a limited number of GBHL100 events, which are larger, established events awarding 100 league points to the winner. The GBHL90 is to be somewhere in the middle, awarding 90 league points to the winner, and perhaps reflecting smaller local events considered to be more competively focused. Hopefully you'll start to see a mix of these kinds of events being advertised for 2023 in the coming weeks. So far we have over 45 events already registered for next year's season...
But that's not the only change.

In recent years the increase in events across these isles has increased hugely - some areas quicker than others, but it's clear the game is growing in popularity. So after a surge in interest in the regional competitions we're starting to host, the league has decided to increase the competition among local players.
So, starting next year, there will be more Regional Competitions. Until now we've had South, Central and Northern Regions. Next year we'll have Scotland & Ireland, South East, South West, Central, and Northern. If you take part in any event in your home region, your successes will autmatically count towards that regional competion.
We hope this will give people a chance at showing their quality (their very highest) whether they're able to travel the length and breadth of the country or not. The rewards will still be great for the GBHL as a whole (and for newcomers, painters and sporting players!) but we hope this gives everyone an extra reason to support their local community, and this great hobby as a whole!
I'll be updating you on the goings-ons of this year's league as a whole very soon - but hopefully you'll be able to start seeing the 2023 Calendar here on the GBHL website very soon.
Until Next time, may this hobby be a light for you when all other lights go out.
