What is the GBHL?
The Great British Hobbit League, or GBHL for short, is world's largest gaming league for the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game produced by Games Workshop. The GBHL is a non-profit organisation to support events and unify the community of the Middle earth Strategy Battle Games in the UK.
What can I compete for?
The Great British Hobbit League isn't just for competitive players of MESBG, it attempts to bring the communities together through a variety of competitions focused on different aspects of the hobby. As such it awards prizes annually at the GBHL Finale Event (which is in a different location evey year). Rankings for all the competitions are kept up to date as quickly as possible after events are complete (they can be found here).
Prizes are awarded for the following categories:
-
GBHL Champion - The Three Highest ranked players in the GBHL
-
Best Newcomer - The Three Highest Ranked Newcomers to the League
-
Friend of Middle Earth - The Three Players who won the most Most Sporting awards
-
Artisan of Middle Earth - The Three Players with the most Best Painted points
-
The Fantasy Fellowship - The three highest ranked GBHL Teams in the GBHL
-
The Regional Champions - The Best Three Players in each of the GBHL's Regional Leagues
-
The Wanderer of Middle Earth - The Player who attends the most GBHL Events in a Season
How is the league Run?
The GBHL is run by 2 main bodies, the Event Organiser Committee and the Management Committee.
The Event Organiser Committee
The Event organiser Committee, or TO committee as it is often known, comprises representatives and hosts from all of the GBHL events that happen throughout the year.
The TO committee is responsible for the election of the management committee and has direct communication with them to advise on changes and hold them to account.
The Management Committee
The management committee is responsible for the day to day functions of the league, including the rankings, league schedule and league rules.
The Management Committee is headed up by the League Coordinator and up to 10 other members of the community, who have either run a GBHL event or attended a minimum of 4 events. Full elections are every 2 seasons of the GBHL and are open to anyone who meets the qualifying criteria.
