OUTRIDERS BRING NEWS!! - THE FUTURE OF THE LEAGUE - by Harry Parkhill (GBHL Marketing Officer)

Greetings my admirable hobbits!

Thirteen weeks has passed by faster than a Hobbit can agree to another spot of seedcake - and it’s been about 7 since the last news update (apologies!).

Sadly, those weeks have passed by for many hobbyists in the UK with very little or no games of MESBG. Hopefully this post (and accompanying pictures) will help keep the embers of the Hobby alive a little longer!

But, first, as rules have been eased gently in parts of the UK (and less so in others) the management committee of the Great British Hobbit League have had to decide on how the GBHL will score tournaments for the rest of the year. A message from the Management Committe: “Due to the Impact of Covid-19 and the continuing uncertainty around the safety of events; the GBHL management committee has decided to suspend league status of all GBHL accredited events until further notice.

This decision was not taken lightly but, as a national league, we believe it would be irresponsible and unfair to encourage people to travel cross-country by the awarding of league points. This is especially so when considering those who are unable to travel because of variations in regional rules and/or health concerns. While the suspension is in place, this does not mean all SBG events themselves will be cancelled, that decision will be solely up to the individual event organisers. These events, however, will not confer any league points until the suspension is lifted. We apologies for any disappointment this may have caused, the management committee will review this periodically and update everyone on the situation when there is any change to this position. Stay safe, Alastair King - GBHL League Coordinator” As Alastair says, some events may well begin to start soon but the committee doesn’t want to disadvantage those in countries where travel is restricted more than others, and also doesn’t want to officially sanction events if they will clearly be breaking Governement Guidelines. BUT - as Alastair says - that may all change soon, depending on guidelines and the ever-changing world in which we live in… STAY TUNED! - GBHL Harry
