The Great British Hobbit League is the biggest MESBG league in the world, with nearly 750 players competing in events last year, and well over 1200 players competing over its years as a league. This huge number of players naturally leads to some incredibly talented players, but with events spread across the country it means not all of these competitors ever get a chance to play one another...
UNTIL NOW.
In just a few weeks time (Apr 22/23) 16 of the best players in the league will be playing in a Knock Out tournament to crown THE GBHL MASTER for 2022.
The tournament is sadly invitational only and rewards the players who made the podium in the regional competionts of the league last year, alongside those making into the top of the GBHL league. To reflect the premium nature of the competition, it's being held at Warhammer World (with thanks to the GW team there for letting it happen for free). It's basically another prize for those who did so well in the league last year.
Those taking part include last year's league winner Will Champion, rules writer and Ardacon winner Jay Clare, Best Newcomer Jake Rawson, 2020/21 GBHL Winner Alastair King, and a whole shark tank full of top table players and GBHL100 winners:
(in GBHL Ranking Order)

10: Thomas Wagg
11: Jake Bankes
12: Jay Acharya
13: Sam Gratton

16: James Goble
They'll be playing in a Knock-Out format seeded* to avoid any early major clashes (and to build potential for giant killers!) - the rulespack is here if you want more of an idea!
The Day 1 pods are thus:
Pod 1: Will C (Fell Beinga of Mirkwood), Jake R (Arnor), Jay A (Angmar), Sam G (Laketown/Erebor)
Pod 2: Dave C (Host of the Dragon Emperor), Michael B (Asssault on Lothlorien), Jake B ( (Host of the Dragon Emperor) Ashley W (Mordor/Harad)
Pod 3: Dave F (Mordor/Harad), Ali K (Thror/IronHills) ,Tom W (Assault on Lothlorien) , James G (Rivendell/Numenor)
Pod 4: Jay C (Lothlorien) ,Jamie W (Host of the Dragon Emperor),Ed Ball (Black Riders), David Nixon (Wolves of Isengard!)
Lists have been added to this drive here, so if you want to see what the top players are taking at 700pts have a look ... Interestingly, according to a poll in the GBHL, the people so far believe that Micheal Bradford's Assault on Lothlorien will win, if you think differently, vote there now!
And if you think you have what it takes to be a GBHL Master all you have to do is win a few GBHL tournaments this year and end up in the top bracket of players. If you manage enough, you'll automatically be eligible for qualification in next year's Masters... Sounds easy enough...
