If you're keen to head to an SBG tournament this year, this series of tournament teasers is for you to find out the next spot on your tour of the tabletops:
New tourney on the block, the Battle for Borough Fields is an event hosted by Atomic Cards in Swindon (between Briston and Oxford). It's the first time it'll provide points for the Great British Hobbit League, but TO Tom Pattison says not to let that put you off:
"We've run several small events in the past," he says, adding that they have "a wide variety of terrain featuring lots of hand made tables depicting some of the most iconic areas of Middle Earth."
The tourney will see 32 players clash over 4 games using forces of just 450pts per army. And if you're looking for a fun event to kick off your year in style, look no further. Tom says he expects a lot of newcomers to the game at the tourney so the event pack is fairly straightforward to hopefully "lower the barrier of entry" and encourage newbies to join the fray.
But the event isn't just about encouraging people to travel far and wide to Swindon, it's about encouraging folk in the area to join the community.
"Our main hope for this event is to promote the game within our local area and bring some new faces to the league," Tom says.
And judging by the take-up, it seems that the event is being well and truly supported by those in the South West. Tom says it's currently sold out with a couple of people on the waiting list - but it's always worth adding yourself to the reserves if you are local and can step in at the last minute, you may be called up if there are last minute drop outs (believe me, there always are!!). But Tom says even if that doesn't happen, "We have a follow up event in November so keep your eyes peeled for that!"
