In The Great British Hobbit League we're acutely aware of how unique ME:SBG is. The community has seen an unprecedented upsurge in activity in the last few years. Exactly what has caused it we don't know; interest in the Rings of Power; a desire to rekindle nostalgic hobbies; an incredibly well maintained rules set and perfectly paced release schedule or just a notoriously jolly bunch of folk playing it. Who Knows!?
But with growth comes a shedload of extra work for the volunteers who help run the League and assist with people wanting to establish new communities. It is in this vein I come to you now. At the turn of the tide - as it were.
Next week we're hosting elections for vacancies on the GBHL Management Committee. The current structure is being updated to include representatives for the new league areas we're introducing next season (as mentioned in this previous post).
If you missed it, essentially we're adding a new tier of GBHL Event, a GBHL90 (which earns winners 90 pts for the league - a stop gap between current GBHL80s and GBHL100s) and we're also seeking to divide the League's Regional system more. We're adding more regions in England to reflect the huge growth in the south of the country and allowing more room for Scotland and the island of Ireland's scene to grow.
So, we're on the hunt for people who are willing to help the League by becoming a Regional Rep for the North of England, South East of England, and Central England. A rep is usually someone who's organised events before, and is keen to take an active role in shaping the league (by attending bi-monthly zoom meetings), helping new TOs and assisting other committee members in relation to events in their patch (eg. being a go between for scores, info & pictures to promote the event, or other ways to assist new TOs).
We're also keen to look for someone who's capable and willing to take on the role of League Treasurer. This will involve being on top of League Events' fees, and arranging outgoings like buying League Prizes or helping sort the league finale.
We're hoping to host an election (any current GBHL League Tournament Organisers get a vote) in Mid December so need your expression of interest before Dec 13th.
WHILE YOU'RE HERE.
Get very excited, because, coming to a League Near You (well, the GBHL!) we're introducing...
GBHL TEAMS! Compete in the League as a Fellowship of 9 Companions... Will your team reign supreme next year? Will it be feared on the tabletop? Will it be an Art Collective renowned for its painting prowess? Will it be a local gaming club going national? Or will it be an unlikely bond of friends united by a single purpose... to turn up at events wearing the same t-shirt and arrange amusing group competitions?
More info soon....
We'll have a post after The League Finale (this weekend - some tickets still available after a couple of drop outs!) with the League results (and hopefully a Video of the results too!). If you want to get involved, check out the calendar of events here, and check where you are in the placings for both gaming and Hobbying here!
Until Next time, may this hobby be a light for you when all other lights go out.
